Health System Specialist

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-09. At the GS-07 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-09. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
The employee assists the C&P Manager/Analyst in developing short- and long-term goals necessary to accomplish the mission of the C&P program. Assists in identifying the resources necessary for accomplishing the mission and function of the credentials and privileging program. Serves as SME in the field of credentials and clinical privileging. Keeps leadership and appropriate administrative staff informed of program changes, new regulatory requirements, and policies and procedures pertaining to the C&P process; Assists C&P Manager/Analyst in drafting local credentialing processes and Medical Staff Bylaws in compliance with all applicable regulations. Receives and reviews correspondence and communications for the C&P function and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature; Ensures accurate provider data is entered into and maintained in the VetPro computer program. Ensures current information is present on providers relative to state licensure, Drug Enforcement Organization (DEA) license, National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) Continuous Query (CQ) enrollments and renewals, Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), documentation of professional education, specialty medical training, certifications, adverse licensure or privileging actions, initial and renewal of privileges which may affect the status of privileges granted for medical practice; Manages provider applications (initial and renewals) for Licensed Independent Providers C&P within the VAMC; Provides guidance and instruction to hospital staff in completing the required documentation of establishing privileges for Licensed Independent Providers; Assures application packages and other documents meet technical requirements per specialty of provider and assures application folder and database account (VetPro or other internal databases and spreadsheets) meet technical requirements; Serves as technical advisor to the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECMS) and if applicable the Credentials Committee; Perform other duties as assigned. A bachelor's degree (or higher) with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences that is appropriate to the work of this position. NOTE:

Experience:
One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Health System Specialist GS-7. Specialized experience includes progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. Work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and provided knowledge of the following:
Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems; Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; experience with medical terminology, medical specialties and core privileges and procedures to assure competence/appropriateness of credentials and privileging requested; NOTE:

At the baccalaureate level in a related field of study. NOTE:

To qualify for SAA, applicants must have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree as described above under Basic Requirements and meet one of the following:
1) A grade-point average of B (a G.P.A. of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two (2) years of undergraduate study. 2) A grade-point average of B+ (a G.P.A. of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two (2) years of undergraduate study. 3) Rank in the upper one-third (1/3) of your class in the college, university or major subdivision. 4) Membership in a national scholastic honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. OR GS-7 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION:
Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate education (18 semester hours is usually equivalent to one full year of study) at an accredited college or university in a related field of study. NOTE:

Experience:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
